As our taxi departed Jorge Chávez International Airport en route to our hotel in the lively Miraflores district of Lima, I noticed the unfamiliar logos adorning numerous vehicles and dealerships along the roadside. Names like Changan, DFSK, and JAC Motors stood out—brands I hadn't encountered in the US. It had been decades since I'd driven through a Western city without seeing the familiar emblems of Toyota, Volkswagen, or Chevrolet dominating the streets.
